The biggest draw in Florida is definitely Orlando, home to the major attractions and theme parks. You can find a range of cheap deals to Orlando with Airtours, so you’ll be able to stay in quality hotels which offer spacious and clean accommodation plus a huge range of fun outings. Whether your family is keen on visiting Disney and SeaWorld, or you want to try some new outdoor adventures, Orlando is one of the best destinations to visit in Florida. With our range of offers, you can choose from a range of All Inclusive and Self Catering holidays to suit your budget.

Think of Florida as a sort of adventure playground for both kids and adults and you won’t go far wrong. Universal Studios, Legoland Florida and the rest of the theme parks are great fun and all have their own individual appeal. If you want to check out some handmade craftwork and sample the local food, a trip to the Native American reservations might be more up your street. In Orlando, you have so many options for entertainment you’ll be spoilt for choice on your holiday.

The Sunshine State is the perfect place for a great beach holiday, and there are some lovely sands within easy reach of Orlando. Cocoa Beach is just over an hour away and Daytona Beach a couple of minutes more. You can surf, swim and stroll along the pier on Cocoa Beach, sampling the food offered by some of the many restaurants along the way or pause for a cool drink at one of the many bars. This area is a stylish setting for beach weddings and is also popular for fishing.

Trips to the sites of historic battlefields and heritage trails make for an interesting day out. The Seminole Tribe of Florida based at Billie Swamp Safari (Cypress Indian Reservation) runs guided eco tours of the nature reserve including airboat rides and swamp buggy rides. You can visit the Seminole village or just stroll through the parkland to see the turtles, reptiles and alligators.

Why not take a trip to Madame Tussauds or spend a day or two by the sea? Or perhaps you’d rather squeeze in a trip to Disneyworld or one of Florida’s 150 national parks. In any case, you definitely won’t be short of things to do on your fabulous Florida holiday

Florida is best for

Families: Beach holidays by the coast, lots of ice cream and impressive theme parks keep the whole family happy.

Explorers: Hiking, climbing and walking trails run through nature parks and wildlife habitats where you can see birds, turtles, snakes and lizards among many other kinds of animals. There are also crocs (be careful with the last – we’re not talking about footwear).

Adventurers: Scuba diving, snorkelling, boating, kayaking and hot air ballooning.

Fast facts

Language: English is the official language and in Native American resorts you'll also hear Creek and Miccosukee. About 20% of Floridians speak Spanish.

Currency: US Dollar.

Local Time: 5 hours behind the time in the UK.

Fly To: Orlando International Airport in Central Florida for easy access to the city and local attractions. Other airports require internal transfers by plane, train or bus.

Flight Time from the UK: Between 9 and 10 hours, depending on which airport you use.

Tourist Information: Additional tourist information about Florida can be found here.

Visa and Health: Before you travel with Airtours visit the UK government site here for help and advice on visa requirements and health considerations for your holiday to the USA.

Weather and climate

Temperature: During the summer months temperatures can soar as high as 35°C depending on your location with inlandareas generally warmer than ones on the coast.

Best time to visit Florida: If you’re a lover of hot temperatures and don’t mind the humidity, visiting Florida between May and September is right for you. If you prefer weather that’s more pleasant, you’ll find that March to May and October to November are cooler.

Getting Around

By Train: Florida’s mainline trains run to either New York City or Washington D.C. The Amtrak Auto Train carries vehicles as well as passengers. Meanwhile, Amtrak Silver Meteor and Silver Star run from Miami to The Big Apple. In both cases, you can stop off at a variety of Florida cities in between.

By Taxi: Taxicabs run a shuttle service between the airport and the city of Orlando and from the main resorts to the theme parks. Take care to use only metered cabs to avoid taxi scams.

By Hire Car: The options for cheap rental cars in Orlando are good and you can pick one up at the airport if you wish or even from your resort if you want a few days away to explore.

By Bus: The I-Ride Trolley is cheap as chips and will take you around the International Drive area in Orlando. Alternatively, the shuttle services mean you can share a 15-seater van with other passengers.

Events

For culture vultures: Florida has lots of concerts, including blues and jazz festivals as well as arts and entertainment extravaganzas across the state.

For foodies: Mouth-watering food can be found at the various seafood festivals that take place on both coastlines. Meanwhile, the chefs at the Delray Beach Bacon and Bourbon Fest produce amazing dishes, including bacon flavoured ice cream.

For sports fans: The International Horse Trials are fascinating to watch, as indeed are the dog surfing competitions. Carnival events include fun features such as golf or domino tournaments.
