What is included?
Playa de las Américas is a place for beach lovers, shoppers and sporty adventurers. As well as relaxing in the sun, have a fun adventure at Mount Teide just 30 minutes outside the resort, where you can hike or take a cable car up to one of the world’s highest volcanoes (3718m) for spectacular views.
Playa de las Américas has six beaches to choose from, all within walking distance from the town centre, which is connected by a charming little tourist train. Families will love the golden sand and warm, calm waters at the main beach while the rockier Playa de Guincho is a favourite with surfers and windsurfers. Every beach offers lots of activities, like volleyball, water and jet skiing, scuba diving, and surfing, as well as boat tours with whale or dolphin watching excursions. You can also hire a private boat, yacht, or catamaran.
The Golden Mile is an open air shopping paradise. Stock up on all your favourite brands in the duty free designer boutiques at the CC Safari Centre, and be sure to catch the nightly water fountain music and light show. The popular Sunday Market in nearby Los Cristianos has over 400 stalls selling local crafts, antiques, clothes and shoes, gold and silver items, vinyl records, and books. For a shopping excursion, try the huge El Corte department store in Santa Cruz less than one hour away.
Golf las Américas is an 18 hole course in the heart of the resort town. It has stunning sea views, a lush landscape, and lots of lakes. About 20km away lies the famous Golf del Sur, which has been host to several European PGA Tours. It is the only golf club in the Canary Islands with 3 courses (27 holes), and it features wide fairways with black volcanic sand in the bunkers. For a family friendly golf outing, play a quick pitch and putt game at Golf Los Palos. Beginners will appreciate the flat landscape and the easy 9 hole, par 27 course.

Temperature: Average highs of 23 to 25°C from July to September
Best time to visit: Playa de las Américas has a Mediterranean climate, which means its long summers (May to October) are warm and dry, with hours of uninterrupted sunshine. For beach goers, August and September are the hottest and the best time for swimming with average sea temperatures of 24°C. Winters are mild with average temperatures in the low 20’s; November and December see the rainiest days, but the showers are short lived.
By train: There’s currently no passenger rail system on Tenerife.
By taxi: Taxis are widely available and relatively cheap. They are white with a green or red light (available/occupied) on the roof. Rates are posted at taxi ranks, but it’s best to agree on a price before getting in.
By hire car: Driving and road conditions are generally quite good and car hire is quite cheap. Cars are available at the island's two airports and at several of the main resorts.
By bus: The Titsa bus service is reliable, convenient, and cheap. The bus station in the town centre offers long distance and local routes.
For dance music fans: Dance to the best international DJs and music stars, such as David Guetta, Avicii, and Sean Paul at the Arona Summer Festival (July).
For carnival celebrants: Carnival (Eastertime) is celebrated all over the island. The opening ceremony for the Playa de los Cristianos carnival is an evening parade with extravagant costumes, dancers, and music that begins in Playa de las Americas.
For world music lovers: Arona International Music Festival (Jan/Feb) attracts renowned instructors, performers, soloists, and classical musicians from around the world who present a series of concerts, workshops, and classes for you to enjoy.
