As one of the most modern resorts on the island, Costa Adeje caters for absolutely everyone, whilst the southern town of Los Christianos is perfect if you want to take full advantage of the island’s location in the middle of the sea. If your idea of Tenerife paradise is lounging on a beach of black sand, lined with tropical palm trees and cactuses, Puerto de la Cruz is the place to be.  

Looming over the whole of Tenerife at 3,718 metres high is the snow capped Mount Teide. Even though Mount Teide is an active volcano it hasn’t erupted since 1909 and is a top location for hikers. Take things up a notch by catching a helicopter flight, try the white knuckle rides at Siam Park or simply spend a day wandering around the many zoos and parks on the island. 

The volcano’s footpath and cable car both take you directly to the summit where you can see spectacular views of the whole island and the nearby islands of Gran Canaria, La Gomera, La Palma and El Hiero. Don’t forget to pack extra layers for your trek, though, as the air thins and is much cooler than down on the beaches. If you don’t fancy the 4 to 5 hour trek up to the summit of Teide then Teide National Park, at the foot of the volcano, is one of the most visited national parks in the world.

Catch a helicopter ride to view the cluster of volcanic islands from above, spend a day enjoying the rides at Siam Park or try paragliding.

This Canary Island is known for its iconic black sand beaches, extraordinary volcanic landscapes and warm weather. One of the best things to do in Tenerife is enjoy the nightlife, by spending your evenings dancing until the early hours or drinking a cocktail in a colourful bar. Playa de las Américas is great for beach clubs, sing-along karaoke bars, elegant cocktail lounges and legendary cabaret bars. For something more traditional, head to the north of the island; Puerto de la Cruz is the place to go for an epic party with the locals. Whether you choose to grab some delicious tapas or head to one of the trendy clubs, a fantastic time is guaranteed in Tenerife.

Beach lovers: The entire island has an exceptional choice of beaches for whatever your mood, whether you’re after peaceful relaxation, days spent building sandcastles or sporty fun. 

Thrill-seekers: Ever wanted to take up an adventurous sport? From helicopter rides, white knuckle treks up Mount Teide and daredevil paragliding to surfing and diving, Tenerife has endless activities.

Visa and health: Tenerife is a member of the EU and there are no vaccinations needed.


Weather and climate

Temperature: Warm and dry throughout the year with highs of 24°C during summer but with slightly cooler winters of around 17 to 18°C. 

Best time to visit: Naturally, the summer months of May to November are incredibly warm with hours of sunlight, warmer sea temperatures and balmier nights, however, Tenerife is lucky to have year round sunshine. There does tend to be some rain in the winter months and Teide is often covered with a sprinkling of snow.


Getting Around

Bus: TITSA buses are a reliable and cheap bus service supplying quick public transport for the whole island. 

Tram: Santa Cruz has a light tramway running through the whole city, great for sightseeing.

Taxi: There are plenty of taxis in the major resorts. They generally charge a standard fare for the main towns but it’s always best to check beforehand.

Hire Car: Hire cars can be rented throughout the island and booked before you travel.


Events

For egg hunters: Tenerife, like all of the Canary Islands, is deeply religious and takes Easter very seriously, but that isn’t to say that it's a dull event. The start of the season is marked with various carnivals throughout the island, and over the Easter weekend, the little village of La Orotavia decorates their entire town in colourful sand to show biblical scenes. 

Carnival Celebration:  Join in the festivities at the 'Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife'. The festival is a flamboyant display of colours, music, freedom and dance with a Brazilian style twist. Each year crowds of people gather to cheer on the parades and watch the show unfold. This event is so popular it’s even entered the Guinness Book of records as the largest gathering of people in an outdoor plaza to attend a concert. Don’t forget to bring your own glamorous costume and join in the fun.
