As Lanzarote's most southerly resort, Playa Blanca is one of the island's sunniest spots. Soak up the sunshine on one of its three beaches, all of which have the resort's signature soft pale sand. Playa Blanca beach itself has a Blue Flag rating and a sheltered bay for swimming. Playa Flamingo is a quiet, family-friendly beach and is popular with the locals. Playa Blanca is a five minute drive from the Los Ajaches nature reserve where you'll find Papagayo, one of the island's best beaches, a crescent of white sand sheltered by cliffs. Lanzarote's capital, Arrecife, is a 35 minute drive away. Here you can stroll along the Mediterranean style promenade and explore the city's boutiques, bars and restaurants. Take a dip in the saltwater lagoon, which is surrounded by palm trees, or check out the old marina with its colourful boats. To see some of the island's natural wonders, head to the Timanfaya National Park where you'll see lava fields formed in the 18th century.
Beach lovers - Three beaches line the Playa Blanca shoreline, two of which have a Blue Flag rating. The soft pale sand stays true to the resort's name, which translates as 'white sand'.
Fun loving families - There are plenty of attractions nearby to keep kids entertained, including the Aqua Lava waterpark with loads of slides and pools.

Best time to visit: Playa Blanca is a year round destination that hardly sees any rainfall. Peak summer temperatures (June/July) can reach 30°C but remain pleasant all year round. The sea temperature stays warm throughout the year.
By Train: There's no rail network on Lanzarote.
By Taxi: Taxis are easy to find in Playa Blanca and are generally cheap. Always ask for the price first to prevent drivers from overcharging you. Most drivers speak English.
By Boat: Ferries are available from Spain (Cadiz and Huelva) or Portugal (Portimao) to the island's capital, Arrecife, around 29km from Playa Blanca.
By Hire Car: Hire cars can be booked in advance or when you arrive.
By Bus: Lanzarote's buses are a cheap and efficient way to travel throughout the island. There's a direct bus service from Lanzarote Airport to Playa Blanca bus station and port.
For a taste of local life: In honour of Spain's patron of the sea, the Fiesta del Carmen event in July is celebrated around the town's church with a colourful procession.
For something traditional: A lively carnival takes place every March in Playa Blanca. This colourful event features street parades, live music, dance performances and local food and drink. Much of the action is centred around Plaza del Carmen.
For something spiritual: In the third week of August you'll find people across the island celebrating Dia de San Gines, the day of Lanzarote's patron saint. There are events in every town but the liveliest celebrations take place in the capital of Arrecife, about a 35 minute drive away.
