Matagorda  Holidays

For the ultimate relaxing break away visit Matagorda in Lanzarote's sunny southeast coast for a quiet beach retreat that is just a 10 minute drive from the island's capital, Arrecife. It sits at the edge of the lively Puerto del Carmen resort and has a Blue Flag beach that rarely gets overcrowded plus a number of restaurants and beachfront bars. Planning laws restrict high rise development here so it has more of a traditional look and there’re plenty of opportunities to take in the views than its busy neighbouring resorts. There's plenty to keep sun seeking families busy in the peaceful Matagorda resort. Kick back on the 6km long beach, paddle in the calm waters or stroll along the promenade to the neighbouring Playa Pocillos beach. The resort offers easy access to Lanzarote's bustling capital and the lively beach resort of Puerto del Carmen. Whether you've splashed out on an All Inclusive break or you've found a cheap winter sun deal, beach holidays in Matagorda offer something special for every kind of traveller.

Matagorda beach is a 6km long stretch of golden sand, which sweeps all the way round to Puerto del Carmen's lively beach resorts. There aren't too many amenities but you'll find vendors selling ice cream and fresh fruit and masseurs offering beach treatments. The beach is dotted with loungers and umbrellas but never really feels overcrowded. If you want to try your hand at windsurfing or watch the pros in action, head to the neighbouring Playa Pocillos beach.

Head to the nearby Aquapark Costa Teguise (a 15 minute drive) to ride the waterslides or catch the sun on the lazy river. It’s a great family day out, as is the Lanzarote Aquarium, also in Costa Teguise, which is home to turtles, sharks and tropical fish. If you’re looking for something a bit more active, there's a go karting track in Puerto del Carmen, or you could take a family boat trip to Lobos Island to explore the stunning nature reserve or climb Cauldron Mountain.

Lanzarote's capital, Arrecife, is a 10 minute drive away. Stroll down the promenade and explore the city's boutiques, bars and restaurants. Take a dip in the saltwater lagoon, which is surrounded by palm trees, or check out the old marina with its colourful boats. To see some of the island's natural wonders, head to the Timanfaya National Park where you'll see lava fields formed in the 18th century.
