Sitting on the edge of its national park, the resort of Correlejo is well worth a visit and is famed for its desert like dunes of the softest Sahara sand. Or if you’re looking for a destination designed to give you absolutely everything you need on your holiday, visit Costa Caleta along the east coast of Fuerteventura.

There are plenty of historical sites in Fuerteventura, where you can learn more about the local history. You’ll also find lots of water sports to enjoy on the many beaches. If it’s fun days out you’re after, check out the zoos and waterparks that are dotted around the island.

The locals of Fuerteventura are very proud of their heritage and are keen to preserve it for generations. There are many museums and art galleries in La Oliva near Corralejo including the very interesting Casa de los Coroneles. This 19th century museum and art gallery is dedicated to telling the stories of the local inhabitants known as Los Majoreros. The Salt museum in Las Salinas shows how vital the land and sea was for the economical and cultural development of the islands.

Fuerteventura has loads of great beaches, so there are plenty of opportunities for diving, surfing, canoeing, snorkelling and more. Golf enthusiasts will love a leisurely sun-kissed game facing the sea in the state of the art 18 hole golf club in Costa Antigua. There are no rules on your beach holiday in Fuerteventura.

It’s always good to have a few fun days out planned on your holiday, should you ever fancy a break from the beach or if the weather’s a bit dodgy. Oasis Park in La Lajita, near Las Palmas, is a great day out for all, whether you’ve got little ones with you, are on holiday as a couple or just a group of mates. This zoo and botanical park has more than 300 animals including colourful parrots, reptiles, performing sea lions and cheeky lemurs. It even gives visitors the chance to have one-to- one animal encounters including the opportunity to swim with the adorable sea lions. If you’re looking to get wet and wild, the Acua Park in Corralejo is a great day out, especially for children who need to let off a little steam! The lazy river and winding water slides are a definite must do.

Cruisers: Taking full advantage of the sea, there’s a vast variety of cruises and excursions from Fuerteventura including glass bottomed boats, catamarans and trips to the tiny island of Isla de Lobos.

Coach trips: Great for sightseeing and meeting like-minded people, coach excursions take you to some of the popular attractions in Fuerteventura.

For bargain hunters: Selling artisan produce and handmade Canarian arts and crafts, the market at El Campanario in Correlejo is well worth a stop especially if you’re keen to haggle for some mementos from your travels.

For quirky kite flyers: Fuerteventura’s close proximity to Africa brings strong north-easterly winds to all of the islands. The island puts on an annual International Kite festival running around November time every year which is great fun for everyone.

For music lovers: Music fans will be impressed by the amount of events available with something for absolutely every taste. There are plenty of musical events in Fuerteventura, from its Jazz Festival in the late summer to its main music festival where you can party until dawn.
