Walk over huge dunes of silky soft sand in Fuerteventura and forget that you're right by the sea and not in theSahara. Ideal for couples, families or groups of friends, it would be impossible to ever become bored of Lanzarote while Gran Canaria offers lush green surroundings for your holiday.

Like all of Spain, the Canary Islands celebrate the main Catholic holidays. The start of Easter brings fun events to the towns and villages but it’s the Carnival season which really brings the islands to life. Themed floats, costumes and live music make Carnival a real celebration. Of course, that’s not all there is to see in this sun-kissed part of the world.

The Canary Islands were formed by volcanic eruptions millions of years ago and have created natural habitats that are now protected by UNESCO. Take a hike on any of the islands national parks and uncover weird and wonderful nature, from the volcanic formations on Timanfaya National Park in Lanzarote to the open craters and lush greenery of the Tajeda Caldera in Gran Canaria. Enjoy walks from the heights of the summit on Mount Teide in Tenerife to the epic sand dunes of Fuerteventura.

The average sea temperature for the Atlantic Ocean surrounding the Canary Islands is around 19°C, but it can reach 21°C during September. If you’ve always dreamt of whale watching, then there’s no need to take a long and chilly trip to the North Pole when the Canary Islands are a mere 4.5 hours away. Jump on any one of the dolphin and whale watching cruises and see them in their natural environment.

The traditional Canarian cuisine is amazing. Try the tapas made up of wrinkled Canarian potatoes, spicy green and red mojo sauce, casseroles packed with fresh seafood and spices and delicious shellfish caught locally. It’s a lovely rustic cuisine that brings visitors back time and time again.

Winter in the Canary Islands is still lovely with mild temperatures in the day between15‐20°C but cooling down overnight.
