It might be known for being a party island but this is only a small part of Ibiza. It’s a great place to escape modern life and explore, with plenty of culture and history dating as far back as 6 BC.

It doesn’t matter what you’re looking for on your beach holiday, you’re free as a bird to change your mind at any point. Made plans to do absolutely nothing but laze on a beach all day but fancy mixing it up a bit? No problem. Your holiday in Ibiza can never be dull.

If you can’t keep still on your holidays and love a bit of hiking, then Ibiza is ideal for you. Take a trip to the highest mountain on Ibiza, Sa Talaia, to take in the incredible view of the neighbouring island of Formentura. Coastal path walks are lovely and a walk around the whole of Portinax at approximately 12km will be a peaceful escape. Start at the beach and walk along the coast to view the Moscarter lighthouse, then along the village and right back at the start again, the beach.

Ibiza has become home to the Hippy Market in Punta Arabí. It’s a bright and colourful market that sells all kinds of arts and crafts, traditional Ibizan goods and trinkets to remind you of your holiday with street food vendors, live music and storytelling. There are lots of markets that happen all over the island during the summer months and are ideal places to haggle for handmade silverware or handicrafts.

The beautiful UNESCO protected fortress ‘Dalt Vila’ in Ibiza Town looks like it’s straight out of a film with small winding streets and huge, heavy gates. It’s the perfect place to spend a shady afternoon before heading back to the beach.

Ibiza is best for

Partying: Of course we have to mention Ibiza’s reputation for nightclubs, lively bars and festivals. The resorts of San Antonio and Playa d’en Bossa are jam packed with clubs featuring some of the world’s most famous DJs.

Idyllic Beaches: If your perfect paradise beach involves deep blue sea, golden sand and tropical plants with a couple of deep and rocky sea stacks, Ibiza is for you. With sheltered and shady beaches, the Mediterranean Sea has a great temperature for swimming and many of the beaches are safely patrolled by lifeguards.

Fun: Some love clubbing, some like yoga, some want to spend time with their little ones, some love food. No matter what sort of person you are, Ibiza has something for you.

Fast facts

Language: The locals in Ibiza speak Spanish but many of the resorts are multilingual.

Currency: Euros.

Local time: One hour behind us in the UK.

Fly to: Fly to Ibiza airport from a number of UK spots.

Flight time from UK: A mere 2.5 hour long flight.

Tourist information: Ibiza’s official tourism site has lots of great information here.

Visa and health: You don't need a visa or any specific vaccinations to enter Ibiza; you will need your passport though!

Weather and climate

Temperature: Gloriously warm temperatures of approximately 25°C in the summer months. During the winter the temperatures rarely fall below 10°C, so very mild.

Best time to visit Ibiza: The summer months between May and October are ideal for beach holidays, at least ten hours of sunshine, warm sea, very little rainfall and a lovely sea breeze along with temperatures that hit the mid 20s.The winter months do tend to have a little rain but this does keep the island a healthy green.

Getting Around

Buses: There is a cheap and reliable local bus service that serves the major resorts and the airport.

Car hire: Hiring a car is easy and can be organised before you travel.

Taxis: Like every resort, taxis are easy to spot and easy to flag down. Ibiza taxis run on a metre system so can be quite cheap if there is a group of you travelling.

Medieval Fayre: An annual celebration of Ibiza’s highly-coveted UNESCO World Heritage status, this three day medieval fayre in May promotes its history that dates back to 6 BC. The streets of Ibiza Town are decorated, people are dressed in Medieval clothes and you’ll find lots of festivities to get involved in as the town puts on a real show.

Fiestas! Throughout the island, you’ll find that locals celebrate their religion and heritage with yearly fiestas, often in memory of the saint that their towns or villages are named after. In Ibiza there’s a real variety: Es Cana Fiesta puts on a fireworks show on the beach, the Fiesta of San Antonio has fantastic cultural shows including national dancing in the street and the fiesta of San Miguel sees the streets lined to watch folk music.
