After spending all year waiting for your holiday, you deserve something amazing. With all of the relaxation of a great beach holiday but with the added bonus of amazing places to swim, lots of culture and a great nightlife, the areas of Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras are perfect.

If we were to list all of the things to do in the Yucatan Peninsula then we would be here a very long time. This region is absolutely packed to the gills with exciting things to see and do.

Mexico has a deep appreciation for its past. Chichén Itzá, Tulum and Coba are all well worth stopping at. As one of the great wonders of the world, the Kukulkan pyramid at Chichén Itzá is unforgettable. This amazing skull and serpent covered pyramid was the site of much Mayan spirituality as well as being the place where the calendar of 365 days was invented.

There are some fantastic museums in the region. Cancún Underwater Museum is an art installation made up of 500 life size sculptures attached to the sea floor and co-existing with the coral reef. Take one of the glass bottom boats out and it’ll have you imagining you’ve come across the ancient city of Atlantis. If you’ve a taste for Mexico’s finest export, tequila, then the Museo Sensorial Tequila, will show you just how this famous drink is made starting with the agave plant, all the way to bottling.

There are lots of amazing natural areas in this region. The eco parks of Xcaret, Xel-Há and Kantun-chi are great visits. Go for a swim in the underground rivers, take a dip in the Mayan Cave cenote in Xel-Há, swim alongside dolphins or in the lagoons that sit next to the jungle near the beaches.

Cancun is best for

Mayan histories: The many Mayan ruins in the Cancún region are brilliant reminders of an entire civilisation before colonialism. Chichén Itzá, Tulum and Coba are popular choices to visit.

Snorkelling: Ever wanted to get up close and personal with a wild sea turtle? Or even a manatee? Along with the clearest Caribbean seas and coral reefs, there are many theme parks where you can swim with some of the planet’s most beautiful sea creatures.

Nightlife: Cancún, Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras are famous for their nightlife. From the hustle and bustle of the main resort nightclubs, bars and restaurants to quiet night cruises out at sea there is something for every kind of traveller.
