There are tons of accommodation options throughout India, from traditional homestays to Self Catering properties and All Inclusive hotels. You'll find cool city centre boutiques, resort-style seafront hotels, rustic hilltop retreats and everything in between. Some of the most popular beach retreats are found on India's west coast including Goa, Arpora and Baga.

Whether you're looking to kick back on a beautiful beach, fill up on delicious spicy dishes, explore famous landmarks or discover natural wonders, beach holidays in India provide all this and more. Facing the Indian Ocean, the beaches on India's west coast are great for lazy days and fun filled nights. The main coastal towns are around an hour's drive from Goa's international airport.

India has an incredible array of historic sights and architectural gems to discover. The Taj Mahal, considered by many to be the world's most beautiful building, tops most must-see lists. A designated World Heritage Site, it is set in ornamental gardens and is an amazing sight if you catch it at sunrise or sunset. Also in Agra, Agra Fort is worth a visit. In the sacred city of Varanasi, the Vishwanath Temple has a stunning gold plated dome.

Goa's stunning palm tree beaches cover 100km on India's west coast. Baga beach is one of the most popular spots for its lively bars and plentiful watersports including windsurfing and jet skiing. Don’t miss out on a dolphin watching trip – boat trips go regularly from the shore.

India may be densely populated but you’ll find lots of natural wonders, from Bandhavgarh National Park where Bengal tigers roam, to the backwaters of Kerala, a maze of canals, rivers and lakes. The Dudhsagar Falls on the Mandovi River in Goa is a four-tiered waterfall and one of the tallest in India. There are a couple of natural pools that visitors can swim in.

For something traditional: The Hindu festival of Holi is celebrated throughout India each spring. The event celebrates love and colours and sees huge crowds of people throw coloured powder on each other in streets and parks, usually with live music too.

For music fans: Goa's lively four-day carnival is held in February and dates back 500 years to when the area was ruled by the Portuguese. The event brings together colourful street processions, live music, fire-eaters, food stalls and cooking competitions.

For a stunning spectacle: Diwali is the biggest festival in India and celebrates light over dark and good over evil. Based on a lunar cycle, it usually takes place in November and is celebrated throughout India. Join locals and light small diyas (lamps) before you watch stunning firework displays.
