Cyprus has so many interesting and fun things to do that you won’t know where to begin. Make it as action-packed or as laidback as you like, with opportunities for swimming, lounging on the beach, history tours, snorkelling and more. Booking your holidays in Cyprus with Airtours is a doddle.

The beaches of Cyprus are lovely, though they can get a little crowded during July and August. The weather in Cyprus is still great out of the high season, so why not think about a cheap springtime deal?

You’d find it hard to visit Cyprus and ignore the incredible history that surrounds you. This island famous as the goddess Aphrodite’s birthplace but is legendary in more ways than one, and you're sure to make some historic discoveries as you explore.

If you're fit for the task and you know how to dive, you'll enjoy spending time swimming among the ruins and seeing the amazing variety of marine life. The water is very clear and visibility is excellent, so grab your mask and get going.

Cyrpus is best for

Honeymooners: Cyprus is a great romantic getaway. It’s known as the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite, so is often called the "Island of Love". With gorgeous beaches and great weather, it’s a great wedding destination and you’re sure to have a great time if you choose to honeymoon on the island.

History Buffs: For such a small country, Cyprus has a rich history. It’s home to plenty of historic sites that are worth visiting on your holiday – check out Amathus, Kalavasos-Tenta and the Church of Agios Lazaros to name a few.

Divers: Cyprus has plenty of beautiful scenery on land but you’ll see some of the most incredible sights under water. Go snorkelling to see the colourful marine life and explore the many wrecks that are littered all over the sea floor.

Fast facts

Language: The official languages of Cyprus are Greek (in the south) and Turkish (in the north). Because Cyprus was formerly under British rule, many people speak English fluently.

Currency: Euros.

Local Time: Cyprus is in the EET zone, 2 hours ahead of GMT/UK time.

Fly To: Larnaca International Airport (LCA) is the main airport for Cyprus. Low cost carriers such as Ryanair use Paphos International (PFO) instead because of its lower fees. It’s also possible to get to Cyprus via Ercan International (ECN) in the north, but your flight will include a stop in Turkey. There are no direct flights to Ercan from any other country.  Airtours can help you get the cheapest deals on holidays to Cyprus and international flights to hundreds of other destinations.

Flight Time From UK: A flight from London to Larnaca is around 4.5 hours.

Tourist Information: Check out the official website of the Cyprus Tourism Office here.

Visas & Health: You don't currently need any special vaccinations for Cyprus, but you may want to check with your GP for advice about what vaccinations are recommended. For tourist visits of 90 days or less, UK passport holders do not require a visa.

Weather and climate

Temperature: The average daily temperatures in the warm season (April to October) range from the mid 20s to the mid 30s, dropping only slightly at night.

Best time to visit Cyprus: Travel during April to October to get the best of the weather. If you aren’t fussed about going in the usual summer holiday weeks, take a look at our holiday offers for spring and autumn dates to get yourself a great deal.

Getting Around

By Taxi: In major cities, taxis have meters but in rural areas, most taxis don’t, so make sure you agree on a price before heading off.

By Bus: There are excellent buses in southern Cyprus and they’re easy to get around on. Fares are around €1 for a single journey, €2 for a daily ticket, €10 for a weekly ticket and €30 for a monthly ticket.

By Hire Car:  You can rent a car for around €35 per day from the major car rental agencies, and smaller agencies might offer better prices. Driving in Cyprus is safe and easy as long as you stick to the main roads and highways.

For culture vultures: One of the biggest events in Cyprus is the Limassol Carnival Festival, an event that takes place before Orthodox Easter each year. Locals dress up and parade through the streets singing songs and getting the crowds involved.

For beer & wine lovers: Also in Limassol, you’ll find festivals dedicated to wine (September) and beer (July). Both offer free tastings and cheap drinks deals – why not go and discover your new favourite tipple?

For romantics: The Aphrodite Festival in Paphos is a beautiful open-air opera performance which takes place in the Medieval Castle Square. It's a lovely way to spend an evening enjoying Cypriot music in stunning surroundings.
