Croatia has plenty of place to stay from simple Self-Catering apartments to large all inclusive beach resorts. The Dalmatian coast stretches along the western edge of the country with Split at its central point and lovely seaside towns dotted along the shoreline. Further south you'll find Brela and Makarska, both excellent choices for a sunny escape with easy access to beautiful beaches and Croatia's stunning islands.

You can be as active or as lazy as you like on a Croatian holiday. The stunning coastline is just as appealing whether you're lounging under an umbrella on the beach or touring the neighbouring islands on a boat trip. Head south to the Dalmatian Coast for warmer weather and a selection of beautiful beaches. From here it's an easy boat ride across to the islands of Brac, Hvar and Korcula.

When it comes to finding a stunning beach, you can't go wrong with the Dalmatian Coast. The island of Brac is best known for its south coast beach, Zlatni Rat and Hvar's best bet is Uvala Dubovica, which features pebble beach and a shallow bay. The 61km long Makarska Riviera is home to some beautiful bays and hidden coves. In Makarska itself, you'll find plenty of water sports options including banana boats, jet skis and pedalos.

In central Croatia, Plitvice Lakes is a UNESCO World Heritage national park that can be visited quite easily on a half day trip from either Zadar or Zagreb. It's home to 16 crystal clear turquoise lakes and a series of spectacular waterfalls. Krka national park, around a 30 minute drive from Sibenik, is a lesser visited option with gorges, waterfalls and river rapids. Scuba divers should head to the Kornati Islands to explore the clear waters and wrecks that around 90 half submerged islands.

Dubrovnik's old town is surrounded by ancient city walls and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. Much of the town's stunning architecture, including Baroque and Gothic churches, has been preserved within the walls. In Split, you can explore an impressive Roman palace in the centre of town and an archaeological museum. There's also a Roman forum in the centre of Zadar.
