Temperature: Between 20°C and 30°C all year round with warm sea temperatures in the high 20s.
Best time to visit: The dry season is December to April but Cuba still has plenty of Sun in this time. Rain showers tend to be heavy and brief with everything drying out quickly afterwards. Summer is hot with average temperatures of 28°C, but easterly breezes mean it never gets uncomfortable. While Cuba can be affected by summer hurricanes, they don’t happen often.
By Taxi: Taxis are quite cheap in Cuba and easy to find but without metres, you should make sure to agree on a price first. You can arrange airport transfers through hotels with ease.
By Hire Car: Hiring cars through resorts or airports can be done, but beware of poor road maintenance and signposting.
By Bus: Cuba has long distance VIAZUL buses which are good value and comfortable for city to city journeys. Otherwise local buses are very cheap but don’t always run on schedule.
By Scooter: Hiring a scooter from resort areas is a great way to get around if you’re already familiar with how to ride them. Cheaper than hiring a car, for going beach to beach or visiting nearby towns, this is a good way of getting around at your own pace.
For festival lovers: Carnival is celebrated widely throughout Cuba and one of the best places to enjoy the festival is in Holguin, just 45 minutes from Playa Pesquero. It’s worth the drive as every August performances, music, dancing and street food fills this historic city.
For heritage followers: If you’re interested in national heritage and culture, you’ll love the Romerias de Mayo festival held each May in Holguin. With parades and music, this traditional festival celebrates both the past and the future and is your chance to really experience Cuban culture.
For film lovers: Each April in Gibara, a beautiful little town just 45 minutes along the coast from Playa Pesquero, is an international film festival. Specialising in low budget films, this fantastic festival is well worth a visit if you love foreign and independent movies.
