Best time to visit: Due to its tropical climate, you’ll find that winter is the driest time to visit Cuba although summer downpours are heavy but short. Spring and autumn are warm, sunny and quieter than summer with cheap deals to be had. Cuba can be affected by hurricanes between June and November but they’re uncommon.
By Taxi: Taxis are plentiful and affordable but fares need to be agreed up front.
By Hire Car: It’s possible to hire cars from resorts and airports but be careful with badly maintained roads.
By Bus: Local buses are cheap and are good for short distances, while long distance buses that travel city to city are more modern and are run by the company VIAZUL.
By Scooter: Scooters can often be hired from tourist resorts and are a cheap and fun way to explore at your own pace or just go to the next beach.
For festival lovers: Holguin Carnival is a vibrant event that’s fun for everyone involved. Every August thousands of Cubans and tourist head to Holguin for dancing, food, music and to climb the hill above the city.
For party people: At the beginning of December each year is a Full Moon Festival in Guardalavaca that brings locals and tourists alike to party and dance right on the beach. This weeklong event also includes music, craft stalls, food and plenty of traditional Cuban souvenirs.
