Bulgaria has become a major tourist spot in the last ten years, and one of the top destinations in the country is the aptly named Sunny Beach. There’s much more than just sun, sea and sand to this family favourite holiday spot, and in 2017 there’ll be even more to enjoy as more entertainment options open up. So if you get bored of the sun lounger, what else can you do in Sunny Beach?

Go pony trekking

Head over to the northern edge of the beach, and on the road to Kosharitsa you’ll find a pony trekking centre offering short trots out or day-long treks. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never even sat on a horse before either, as the ponies are steady, friendly and adorable. Great fun for the whole family.

Have a mud bath!

There’s nothing like getting gloriously muddy to raise a smile, and it’s good for your skin too! Formed millions of years ago, the Black Sea mud pools are one of the region’s favourite spots for ‘cooling the blood’ on a hot, sunny day. It’s fabulously muddy, it’s fun, and best of all, it’s completely free.

Splash down in the local Aqua parks

There’s not one but two aqua parks in and around Sunny Beach, and both are perfect for a fun day out. Action Aqua Park is small, but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in friendly atmosphere and sheer, splashtastic fun. It’s a great venue for the kids, and it’s close to the beach too, so you can have the best of both worlds. Acqua World is larger, with plenty of rides and short queues.

Go back in time at the ancient city of Nessebar

Known as the ‘Pearl of the Black Sea’, this well preserved ancient city lets you glimpse back over three thousand years of ancient history. Nessebar was one of the Byzantine Empires’ most important cities, and even today it wows visitors with its charming old town and imposing battlements.

Khan’s Tent Cabaret

If you’re not up on your feet and dancing by the end of the night, then you might need to check your pulse! This evening of entertainment is brash, loud, colourful and irresistible. Enjoy live music and international dancers while dining on a delicious, three-course meal, and then work off that pudding by joining in with the celebrations.
