My last great solo backpacking adventure when I flew out to Sarajevo and climbed up into the hills surrounding the city to unearth it’s Olympic past.

2) Which destination is next on your bucket list?

Montenegro

3) If you could take any 5 people on a holiday of your choice to anywhere in the world who would you choose, where would you go and why?

My better half, the parents, my brother in law and I suppose my sister too. The dream team.  We actually all went away together at the start of the year and had a blast, so I would certainly be keen for another family getaway.  Where would we go through?  Well Montenegro is top of the travel wish list at the moment so it would make sense to head there wouldn’t it?  Kotor Bay would be an obvious ‘must’, so too exploring the Lovcen National Park.  Rafting in Tara Canyon would be an awesome way to spend a day and I also quite fancy spending a bit of time on the beach in Bar.  From Bar I would love to board the overnight train to Belgrade and fly home from Serbia.  I think I might be on my own with the train idea though, can’t see the rest of the family going for it.

This is from Lake Bled in Slovenia. It’s a destination that’d been on my wish list for years, but when I finally made it there we had constant cloud and drizzle. I didn’t think I’d get any good photos but when I took a final walk around the lake it went very still and made a perfect reflection of the island against the blue dusk sky.

2) Which destination is next on your bucket list?

Next on my bucket list is South Africa, and I’ll be visiting in November this year, starting in Cape Town and the winelands and then going on safari in Kruger.

3) If you could take any 5 people on a holiday of your choice to anywhere in the world who would you choose, where would you go and why?

Barack Obama (as he’d have a lot of interesting stories), Michael Palin (to compare travel notes), Stephen Fry (to make us laugh), Mary Berry (to supply us with cake) and Ray Mears (in case we get lost).

The mighty Buddha of Jehanabad, a twenty foot tall symbol of peace carved into the Rock, facing the sunset, during the 13th century. Swat Valley is the cradle of Buddhism and a place of serene calm, but it was not always so.

Swat Valley, Pakistan…. This is a special place. I watched as the sun set, the valley turning to gold, the Muslim call to prayer washing over the rice paddies, the Buddha sitting quietly beside me and I thanked my lucky stars for taking a chance on Pakistan; this country is the most incredible place I have ever been.

2) Which destination is next on your bucket list?

Right now, I am hiking in the mountains of Northern Pakistan. Next up, I’ll be popping into Iran before making my way to Bhutan.

3 ) If you could take any 5 people on a holiday of your choice to anywhere in the world who would you choose, where would you go and why?

I would love the chance to hang out with some proper explorers – Sir Ranulph Fiennes has always been a big hero of mine, he would be my first choice for any insanely arduous adventure! Rick, from the cartoon Rick and Morty, would be another obvious choice; he gallivants across the galaxy for a living and would be an epic party buddy. Sir Percy Harrison Fawcett was one of the last great Victorian explorers and headed into the jungles in search of a lost mega-city… the Lost City of Z, I reckon he could teach me a thing or two about the jungle so I would obviously have to invite him on any adventure I put together… Next year, I am hoping to put together an expedition across Pakistan and invite a bunch of explorers, adventurers and nomads to come along; if I could choose anybody, who is still alive, I would go for Tim Ferriss; I admire his swagger. Finally, I would have to choose Esme; a super-hot chick I met whilst hitchhiking across Iran; there’s something beautiful about travelling with somebody who wants to explore just as much as you do.

This is one of my favourite photos on my Instagram feed. It was taken on Ipanema beach in Brazil during my three month adventure around South America. Brazil was about half way through and I stayed in Rio for about a week. It took me a while to like Rio, I just didn’t feel it lived up to the hype to begin with. It wasn’t until I witnessed one of the spectacular sunsets on Ipanema beach after having watched a Brazilian World Cup match that I finally got why everyone loves the city.

2) Which destination is next on your bucket list?

I have a few destinations coming up before the year is over: Australia & China but one trip that’s been on my mind for a while now is taking the Trans-Siberian railway all the way from Russia to Monoglia.
3) If you could take any 5 people on a holiday of your choice to anywhere in the world who would you choose, where would you go and why?

I’d head somewhere beautiful with plenty of mountains and countryside for exploring. Maybe Bhutan because it’s still relatively unexplored. I’d take Malala Yousafzai, because she’s incredibly inspirational and I’d love to hear more about her life so far; Alastair Humphreys, as he’d have tonnes of stories from his adventures to share over the campfire; a chef, maybe Jamie Oliver?, so that they could cook up some tasty dinners, Hannah Engelkamp who walked 1000 miles around Wales with a donkey, she’d have some great tips for looking after any mules we might need when hiking!; and my boyfriend because he’d get some great photos and he’d kill me if he wasn’t invited!

My favourite image of recent times is this one of me in Aruba – it was the first trip I had done solo (it was a group press trip) but with no support network around me. It was a big thing for me and one I am super proud I did as it was an incredible trip, I experienced some many new things and got to travel with people I would never have travelled with. Unmissable moments like this photo was one of many bucket list ticks!

2) Which destination is next on your bucket list?

My bucket list is never ending as I simply want to explore everywhere! However the next place I want to visit is Iceland – it’s been at the top for a while and I feel now is the perfect time to go! I cannot wait to get in the Blue Lagoon and float away..

3 ) If you could take any 5 people on a holiday of your choice to anywhere in the world who would you choose, where would you go and why?

Oh this is a hard one but I’d probably want an insane girls holiday to Mallorca with Adele for her humour and personality, Bastille to be on hand for great music all holiday (does that count as one?!), author and blogger Emma Gannon for her feminist take on reality and insightful mind, Dawn O’Porter as she’s just bad-ass and my best friend Katie as my rock!

I’ve just come back from two weeks in the South of France with my boyfriend and we had the most amazing time at Gorge Du Verdon. We hired a pedalo to go up the river and we were greeted with this incredible view. I’ve been pinning pictures of this place on Pinterest for years, so it was definitely a bucket list moment for me.

2) Which destination is next on your bucket list?

I’m currently lusting after colourful Rajasthan, India. I’d love to spend three weeks exploring different cities including Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaipur and of course I’d have to cross over to Agra to see the Taj Mahal.

3) If you could take any 5 people on a holiday of your choice to anywhere in the world who would you choose, where would you go and why?

I’d take all my family to Bali. It’s been a tough year for my family but we’re closer than ever and although I’ve never been, Bali sounds like a really calming, spiritual and special place. It sounds like the perfect retreat and I think we’d have a great time.

Rock Climbing in Kalymnos Island, Greece – Kalymnos is a Greek island that not a lot of people would consider visiting because it doesn’t have the iconic beaches of Mykonos or Santorini. It is actually one of the top rock climbing destinations in the world and is where my wife’s family is from. I love this photo because I watched this climber do this route completely upside down, and when he fell he stayed there for a few minutes to enjoy the view.

 2) Which destination is next on your bucket list?

India

3) If you could take any 5 people on a holiday of your choice to anywhere in the world who would you choose, where would you go and why? (famous or otherwise)

I would travel with my wife, daughter, my parents and a photographer. We would go to Madagascar to see the incredible wildlife and its beaches. I would love to see the Lemurs, Chameleons and the huge Baobab trees. Our photographer would capture the whole trip for us.

This photo was taken during a ‘Quad Safari’ at Casela Nature Park in Mauritius. I love animals so getting close to these beautiful creatures was an incredible experience. We also saw giraffes, lions and ostriches. It was definitely one of those surreal ‘pinch me’ moments that I’ll never forget, and luckily for me it was caught on camera.

2) Which destination is next on your bucket list?

I am about to embark on a 6-week trip through Vietnam and The Philippines. The Philippines has been on my bucket list for years so I am very excited to go here. I’ve spent hours planning a travel route by doing online research and speaking to friends that have been. I also still dream of going to India, Bora Bora and New York. Hopefully I will reach these in 2017!

3) If you could take any 5 people on a holiday of your choice to anywhere in the world who would you choose, where would you go and why?

Of course I would take my boyfriend, best friend and family. But if it was a choice of celebrities I would choose to invite Amy Schumer, Alan Carr, Khloe Kardashian, Ryan Renolds and Adele. We would all go to the Four Seasons Bora Bora and spend a week in paradise!

It’s difficult to choose just one as our Instagram feed is full of our favourite images from our travels over the last few years! However there was one stand out moment from a more recent adventure when we toured North Finland. We visited during winter and got an amazing opportunity to meet real reindeer farmers in wild Lapland! It was a fascinating and surreal experience to take an authentic sleigh ride out to their farm and come face to face with many of their beautiful wild reindeers, including this particular one which Barry managed to capture during one special moment. We decided to name him the ‘lone reindeer’.

2) Which destination is next on your bucket list?

Despite travelling on and off for the best part of 2 years, we have yet to visit Iceland and would absolutely love to! We’ve seen many images and the scenery looks so beautiful and awe-inspiring, it’s most definitely high on our bucket list! As well as many other places of course….

3) If you could take any 5 people on a holiday of your choice to anywhere in the world who would you choose, where would you go and why?

Our theme for this would be to take 5 people who haven’t experienced somewhere outside of their own continent. For us personally, we would love to take our parents and grandparents to South East Asia, and in particular to Vietnam. We have loved all of our Asian adventures, however Vietnam is a place that truly stands out for us. We loved it the first time we visited (back in 2012) and our most recent return visited just cemented our love for this wonderfully fascinating country! From its stunning scenery, trekking, and of course world renowned Halong Bay, to it’s wonderful culture, friendly people and best of all, the most delicious food we’ve ever tasted! We would love to see the reactions of our family visiting and experiencing a country and culture so different to our own.

This is a photo from my recent trip to Bonavista, Newfoundland and Labrador. I just moved back to Canada after a year living abroad in Berlin, Germany, and it’s been an odd period of adjustment. To get myself out of my funk, I’ve been travelling around my island and doing all the things I couldn’t easily do in Berlin — kayaking, berry picking, hiking, and camping. I spent five days here on the Bonavista Peninsula, falling in love with Newfoundland all over again. It’s an incredibly beautiful place.

2) Which destination is next on your bucket list?

That’s a tough one! I haven’t hit up Southeast Asia at all, so I’d like to head over there for a while. Indonesia is particularly appealing — I love island nations. But I’m also really pulled to Greenland. As much as I love hot destinations, I’m intrigued by cultures in cold, isolated places. Greenland’s folklore is fascinating.
3) If you could take any 5 people on a holiday of your choice to anywhere in the world who would you choose, where would you go and why?

I’m not sure I could handle travelling with five people! Haha. But I’d probably pick some friends or family members that haven’t had much opportunity to travel, including my parents and my little brother, and two of my cousins. My family tends to worry about me a lot, and I want to show them how amazing the world is and how safe it is to travel.

It is hard to pick my favourite image but at the moment I think it would have to be one of a wild baby mountain gorilla that I saw in Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda this past January. In my first year or two of blogging I saw some friends go on a press trip to Rwanda and they trekked to see the Gorillas and this was the most amazing thing ever to me. From that day I put this on the top of my bucket list and dreamed of it happening. Then as fate would have it another friend couldn’t make this trip and graciously offered it to me which I snatched as fast as possible and finally got to see these fury little guys for my own eyes out in the wild. Also important as there are less than 800 remaining in the wild so it’s rare to see but also my visiting help provides money to support the park and hopefully increase their population.

2) Which destination is next on your bucket list?

I have had Japan high on my bucket list ever since I went to school with a Japanese exchange student when I was 5 years old. I am also a HUGE sushi fan. However I am also really wanting to visit parts of Africa that I haven’t been yet to do more safaris and the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania is HIGH on my list to visit as well.
3) If you could take any 5 people on a holiday of your choice to anywhere in the world who would you choose, where would you go and why?

There are too many open variables to this question lol Is there a budget, would that famous person be my BFF or be like “why am I on this trip with these random people? lol” I would probably just take some friends on a safari.

I took this photo 2 months ago in Juneau, Alaska inside the Mendenhall Glacier. I had to hike 9 miles roundtrip to get to the ice cave with all my gear.

2) Which destination is next on your bucket list?

I don’t have a bucket list per se. I have a to do list. I’ll be heading back to Alaska in 2 weeks and then I’m off to Newfoundland and Nova Scotia to visit some national parks.

3) If you could take any 5 people on a holiday of your choice to anywhere in the world who would you choose, where would you go and why?

I’d travel with my friend and National Geographic Traveller of the Year Shannon O’Donnell. She is great to travel with. https://www.instagram.com/alittleadrift/

I’d also like to travel with Ben Franklin, Ted Williams, and Vince Lombardi.

Tough decision…Ok, got one. As an aficionado of sunsets and frequent travel to the Florida Keys I decided to make this island paradise my home not too long ago. This image is from the beach access in my Islamorada community. I can walk here every night and often do….this special evening I was SO glad I did.

2) Which destination is next on your bucket list?

Mongolia. I want to gallop horseback across the Mongolian plains like Genghis Khan.

3) If you could take any 5 people on a holiday of your choice to anywhere in the world who would you choose, where would you go and why?

Since I take people to Mexico City with Stay AdvenTours, I’d like to take 5 popular and influential news anchors from Fox, CNN, MSNBC, etc… not with cameras, just them and showcase this vibrant global capital city. My long weekend tour would educate, entertain and enlighten them on a country, culture, and cuisine and help allow them to change current newsroom created phobias.

It is hard to choose one shot, you know as a photographer you grow to love your every image eventually. But I have chosen this photo from Truso Valley in Georgia, a place deep high in Caucasus Mountains. Very close to the border with Ossetia and Russia, rather hard to reach, patrolled by soldiers but a place of extraordinary beauty. Those are places I like the most, hard to get to, overlooked by most of other travellers and on disputed territories.

2) Which destination is next on your bucket list?

I’m flying to Indonesia for the first time, can’t wait really. So stay tuned for some great shots from Borobudur and West Papua.

3) If you could take any 5 people on a holiday of your choice to anywhere in the world who would you choose, where would you go and why?

Only 5? Let’s make it 6, as I have 6 sisters. So I would take my Sisters for some great adventure in Africa. I’m talking driving a four wheeler from Rwanda and Uganda down to Namibia.

This is one of my favourite images because, looking at it, I can remember how relaxed I felt standing there. Hvar is one of my favourite islands. I love the feel of the place, the slow pace of the day, and, of course, the view.

2) Which destination is next on your bucket list?

I’ve been working really hard on my company Only In VR. It’s making long distance/term travel pretty difficult at the moment. The good news is, that means my bucket list is getting longer and longer! Since it’s a place I love so much and hold so many memories of, I’d love to go back to New Zealand sometime soon.

3) If you could take any 5 people on a holiday of your choice to anywhere in the world who would you choose, where would you go and why?

I would take my 5 guests and go to Vietnam. There’s just so much to do and see that everyone is sure to have a great time. As for who I would take… I think I’d just throw the idea out to my fellow travel buddies and see who was free. That way we could do a cool collaboration on our blogs and maybe create some cool travel videos as well.

Looking across Seilebost and Luskentyre on the Isle of Harris is my favourite view in the world. It’s about an hour from where I grew up in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides, and every single time I drive on that road I stop to get out and just take in the view – the light is always changing, and even on a dark, stormy day, it’s still my favourite place!

2) Which destination is next on your bucket list?

Next on my travel list is Italy. I’m going to Rome and Tuscany this autumn, and I can’t wait to see somewhere new and experience all the historic sights – not to mention eat lots of pasta, pizza, and gelato!

3) If you could take any 5 people on a holiday of your choice to anywhere in the world who would you choose, where would you go and why?

Although I’m based in NYC, most of my family and friends are still in Scotland, which means seeing all my loved ones together in one place doesn’t happen very often. So for that reason I’d have to say I’d take my husband, parents, brother, and best friend somewhere none of us have been before – like South Africa, or Tanzania (can you tell I really want to go on a safari again?!).
