If putting on another jumper or turning up the thermostat just isn’t warming you up this winter, then perhaps it’s time to head to sunnier shores for a couple of weeks. Normally, holiday adverts start after the Christmas break, but with providers trying to tempt customers in early this year, there are already plenty of sizzling beach holidays on offer at knock-down prices. Here are five destinations that will have you lazing on sun-kissed beaches this January, the perfect antidote to those winter blues.

Cape Verde

You don’t have to travel too far to find some winter sunshine, and Cape Verde is just six hours away. That means no jetlag, so you can start to enjoy your holiday straight away. Cape Verde is off the coast of Senegal, putting it firmly in the Tropics. That means this chain of volcanic islands enjoy temperatures of 26°C in February, with around nine hours of sunshine a day.

The Gambia

The Gambia has quickly become one of the most popular winter African destinations. It might be the smallest country in mainland Africa, but it’s a rich and diverse destination that welcomes visitors all year round. Temperatures and daytime sunshine levels in February are similar to what you’ll find in Cape Verde.

If you don’t mind going long-haul, one of the ultimate sunshine destinations to chase those winter blues away has to be Goa. This Indian paradise is famous for its laid-back, relaxed approach to life, and guarantees you some serious sunshine even when it’s thick snow back in the UK.

The Canaries

You don’t have to go to Goa to grab some sunshine. The Canaries remains the UK’s most popular winter Spanish destination, and for good reason. Just four hours flight time from mainland Britain, it offers daily temperatures in January and February of around 21°C and a good six hours of sunshine a day.

The Caribbean

Finally, if you really want to lay back, relax and let all your winter blues just melt away, then it has to be All Inclusive in the Caribbean. Let someone else take care of everything while you soak up the sun on a beach holiday in paradise.
