Whether you’re a beach bum, water sport enthusiast or history buff, there’s plenty to keep you entertained on a holiday to Kos. The island has 20 golden beaches, 2000 years of fascinating history and numerous watersports and equestrian centres. For explorers, there’s even a live volcano you can stand in the middle of and feel the force of the water beneath you. Why not choose the Greek Island of Kos for your next break?
Here are my top five super fun, exciting things to do on a holiday to Kos.
Explore the Beaches
Beach bum alert! The island of Kos has 20 golden beaches and over 290 km of golden sands. Take a break, relax and bask in the scorching Mediterranean sunshine. Can you picture hot dog legs, cocktail in hand, whilst the waves lap softly around you. Relax on the beaches in Kos and leave your troubles far behind.
Get in on the Sporty Action
Adrenaline junkies will love the action in Kos there are so many different water sports you’ll be spoilt for choice. Surfing, para gliding, parascending and water-skiing and more are available in the watersport centres across the island. Best of all, any ability and skill set is welcome; you may even make some friends along the way.
Experience a Live Volcano
Definitely a once in a lifetime experience, it really is amazing to stand on the volcano’s crater floor and feel the force of boiling water rushing under the ground below your feet. The faint hearted will be pleased to know that the Nissyros Volcano has not been active for 16,000 years. To get here take the boat over to Kos island; you can admire the scenic views along the way.
Step back in Time
Kos proudly flaunts its history so take a stroll back in time and admire the castles and ancient monuments. Stroll around the Castle of the Knights of Saint John or visit the famous Asklepieion temple of worship. For a bit of gruesome history visit the Roman Odeon, a similar construction to the Roman colosseum, people used to gather here and watch the fights between the prisoners held captive.
Ride into the Sunset
For any John Wayne fans this is one you won’t want to miss. Take a scenic horse-riding trail and ride into the sunset like the film star himself. There are plenty of equestrian centres around the island so why not live the Wild West experience on your holiday.
